it could be the rack and pinion
Check the fluid reservoir. If the fluid level is low, you have a leak in the powering steering system. The problem could be a damaged steering rack. You will need to replace the entire steering rack.
It indicates a problem with your power steering system. Could be as simple as low power steering fluid level.
(IF) the car is moving when U turn the Steering Wheel IT could B a bad CV Joint.
Could be tie rod or steering gear problem.
Yes, a humming noise when steering could indicate a problem with the rack and pinion system. This noise might be due to worn gears, low power steering fluid, or issues with the power steering pump. It's important to have the system inspected, as continued use could lead to further damage or failure. Addressing the issue promptly can help ensure safe and smooth steering.
This could be the problem. When this system came out in the 97's they had a lot of problems with them. Question, does it really get wild steering going down the highway? Owners said it would get really hard to steer then get real loose. Good luck. Normally just when I am stopped trying to back up or park
It should be self adjusting. If its slipping then your clutch may be worn. Or if it has other symptoms, there could be a different problem. It says the clutch system is self adjusting in my manual.

You have more stuff in the system than just a pump. You have a steering rack that has valves in it that could be sticking. You may have a variable assist valve if you are equipped with variable assist steering. You have lines and linkages that could a have a problem. If you installed the pump, but did not make sure the pressure valve was not in place on the high pressure line, you may have a problem there.
The problem is probably in the steering gear. Clogged passages in steering gear. Leaks in steering gear.
You need to check for fluid, leaks, and so on. The system is fairly simple. if you have a belt turning the pump, correct fluid level in the reservoir and no leaks, it should work. If not, the pump or valve in the pump is usually the problem. Some pumps also have a screen/filter that cloggs up and could be an issue. This is on a system with a steering box. If it has a rack & pinion the problem could be in the rack.
If the squeeling is coming from the tires, then the problem is most likely a misaligned front end. If the squealing is coming from the engine, then the problem would be in the power steering system.
