Starting in year model 1958, Karmann Coachworks built a Ghia Convertible. There are a number of differences between the Ghia vert and the hardtop, specifically the rear seat is narrower, the body is reinforced below the doors inside the rocker panels, the windows are slightly different, heater vents are in different places in the rear etc. While there are a number of chop top ghias, they are not correct. Karmann never built a type I ragtop, with the metal roof cut out for a soft top center much like the early (up through '63) bug sunroof models. There are a number of Ghias which have been modified to install a ragtop, but none were done by the factory Lindsey Lee

No, and not optional. In fact the "no back seat belt" question was answered the last years of production by eliminating the back seat.The back seat was intended for lower insurance rates by claiming 2+2 under body style.It is my understanding that Karmann Ghias never had backseat safety belts, as the backseat area was intended for cargo (i.e. groceries, luggage, etc.) but not for passengers.
How do you remove steering wheel 1967 vw beetle?
Remove Wolfsburg badge, remove brown cable. Unscrew nut size 32 from the shaft. Take away the wheel. On some models (Type I's and Karmann Ghias), the brown cable is not connected to anything, it sits in an insulating sleeve in the end of the shaft and all you see is a brass contact. If you ground the brown wire with your wrench/socket, the horn will sound. A little penetrating oil between the shaft splines and the wheel hub will make life easier.
