On a 1997 Dodge Dakota, the factory amplifier is located in the passenger side kick panel, directly in front of the door. The amplifier should be hooked directly into the speakers.
Which speakers and which moulding exactly are you refering to? If you are talking about the door speakers: Just remove the screws on the panel and inside of the door handle and inside of the armrest on the door there is a screw. Then you must remove the door handle by using a screwdriver to pry off the clip behind the door handle. After that just pop the panel off.
its built into the latch
I had the same problem try getting a new latch mechanism from the junkyard(about $12). Latch mechanism is the thing that holds the door closed.
The light is turned on by a switch on each door. Check them one at a time to see which it is, and then adjust or replace it.
