According to one of Fords websites :
A 1995 Ford Explorer , 4.0 liter EFI , V6 engine takes :
( the Motorcraft RT-1086 engine cooling thermostat , 197 * Fahrenheit )
On a 1995 Ford Aerostar : If it is the 4.0L EFI V6 engine ( like my 1995 Ford EXPLORER ) it has an " O " ring for the thermostat , there is no gasket But , if it is the 3.0L V6 engine I believe a thermostat gasket is used
Follow the top radiator hose from the radiator , it connects to a metal pipe which is part of the engine thermostat housing that is bolted to the front of the engine . The engine thermostat is inside the thermostat housing
I don't have a picture of the engine cooling thermostat but on a 1995 Ford Explorer : If you follow the top radiator hose from the radiator it connects to a metal pipe ( which is part of the thermostat housing ) that is bolted to the front of the engine The engine cooling thermostat is inside the housing * the spring side of the thermostat faces towards the engine , the vent hole goes to the top
The 97 Ford Explorer thermostat is located inside of the engine inlet. The inlet is where the top radiator hose connects to the engine.
Motorcraft . com lists ( Motorcraft RT1161 ) a 190 degree Fahrenheit thermostat for the 1995 Ford Explorer to be used year round
A 2002 Ford Explorer would have come from the factory with approximately a ( 192 * Fahrenheit engine cooling thermostat )
Most likely yes , the engine thermostat has failed in the open position - happened on my 1995 Ford Explorer even though I have always had the cooling system serviced
When I checked www.motorcraft.com for a remanufactured 4.0 L OHV engine for a 1995 Ford Explorer - they showed that there were 6 applications for the engine : 1995 - 1996 Ford Explorer 1995 - 1996 Ford Ranger pickup 1995 - 1996 Mazda truck - all models
My 1995 Ford Explorer was running cooler on the temperature gauge and it turned out to be my thermostat
Follow the top radiator hose from the radiator , it connects to a metal pipe , the other end of the metal pipe is permanently connected to the thermostat housing which is bolted to the front of the engine , the thermostat is inside the thermostat housing
For a 1995 Ford Escort , 1.9 liter four cylinder engine : Follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the engine The hose connects to the engine cooling thermostat housing ( the thermostat is inside the housing )
From 1991 to 1995 the only engine available in the Ford Explorer was the 4.0 liter OHV ( over head valve ) V6 - six cylinder engine
