The fuel gauge on a 1985 Chevy Silverado will read full all the time if the sending unit is defective or the wire has come loose. When the tank is full, the sending unit normally shuts off which cause the gauge to read full.
A tan/white wire goes from the sending unit to the fuel gauge typically on a (example) 1985 Chevrolet Silverado 305 tbi.
the oil sending unit on your truck is located near the distrbutor on most Chevy engines for that year it look like a metal can with a wire connected to it that is the one for the gauge if its the light one then it has two wire connected to it some of these engines will have both right near the dis. some will have these senors near the oil filter.
