The evaporator hose on a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire is located behind the air compressor. Trace one of the hoses back to a cylinder shaped accumulator. The evaporator hose is connected to the bottom of this cylinder.

If it smells musty check the evaporator drain hose hose. Johnny Texas.
If it's the larger hose(pressure hose) it has to be replaced as a unit. The smaller(return hose can be pieced together with a plastic barb.

I assume you are referring to between the engine and the firewall. There are 2 heater hoses in that location.
To change the thermostat on a sunfire,look for the largest hose going into the water pump.Should be to the left as you look down at your fan.There should be a clamp holding the hose on.
