You must first remove the steering column covers. Once they are out of place you will see the actual ignition switch located on the RH upper portion of the steering shaft area. Remove the plug in from the switch by lifting up on the clips at either end of the socket tabs and wiggling the wiring socket free from the switch. To remove the switch, first take a punch and hammer. Center the punch on the head of what looks like a rivet and strike it firmly a couple of times with the hammer. Then using a good pair of pliers, or preferably a pair of vise grips clamp the jaws firmly and unscrew the mounting screws that hold the switch to the column in place. The installation is just reverse of the removal procedure, other than you don't have to strick the screw heads once back in place, just be sure they are tightened securly. When putting the covers back over the column, be sure to install the upper one first. It won't go on no matter how hard you try if the bottom half is installed first. Believe me, I just changed mine out this last week.
:-)

To remove the key ignition from an '85 Ford F-150, first disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues. Then, use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the plastic cover around the ignition switch. After that, locate the retaining screws or bolts holding the ignition switch in place, remove them, and unplug the wiring harness. Finally, you can pull out the ignition cylinder by turning it to the "run" position and pressing the release tab.
