Top rear of engine on a 1999.
Between spark plugs 3 & 5 and 2 & 4 on a 1995.
Really need to know what year you have.
The knock 1 sensor on a Vortec 4.8 is located on the top of the engine. You will have to remove the intake to gain access to replace it.
You shouldn't have to - the knock sensor is supposed to adjust the timing automatically. If the vehicle is mistimed, you might need to replace the knock sensor.
The knock sensors yes there are two are located on either side of the motor (4.3LTR Vortec) below the heads in the center area of the engine block. There are a place for another sensor just above where the knock sensor goes but these are for other sensors. That engine has 2 of them and there underneith the intake manifold. You will have to remove the intake to get to them.
On valley cover plate underneath intake manifold. Must remove intake manifold to get to them.
It is screewed into the passenger side of the engine just in front of the starter. It is hard to see.
A common problem with GM vortec engines is that they dont seal the knock sensors very well and moisture gets into them. the fix is to replace the sensor, and build a dam of rtv silicone around it, keeping water out.
LS does not have a knock sensor. GSR does have a knock sensor
There is one before and one after the catalytic converter.
I just did this swap. I had to change the knock sensor and the map sensor. Everything else stayed the same. Works perfect and more power now. The injectors and ecm stayed the same.you may find some answers here at the link below.
The knock sensor detects spark knock or ping.
that the knock sensor does
