The starter is located under the front part of the engine. Follow the + (red wire) from the battery. One of the wires runs toward the rear of the vehicle, the other runs down toward the engine, follow that one. It ends at the starter

Where is the transmission fluid filler located on a 1999 buick park avenue 3800?
The reliable 3800 V-6 is equipped with the solenoid. It is activated when the starter is engaged. It is located right on the body of the starter. Although it is rare, solenoids aren't sold seprately. To test to so of there is a defect in one you may go to a service shop or any auto retail who will test it for a small or no fee at all.
No. The big thing to remember is to disconnect the negative (black) cable at the battery before beginning work. Fortunately, the starter is located at the front of the engine so it is easy to access. There are two wires each connected using a nut. Two bolts with 15MM heads secure the starter to the engine. That's all there is to it.
