I have a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero, and there is no dipstick. There is a fill cap directly below the mass air flow sensor next to the exhaust pipe, and no it isn't always red, but it should have a little gear on it. As far as the level of the Transmission Fluid, there are many answers, and most are incorrect. On the 3400 (V-6) transmission (like mine) there is a fill plug on the passenger side of the transmission in between the transmission pan and the oil pan. The car needs to be level, put a drain pan underneath the 7/16 plug, then remove plug with the engine off. Ad tranny fluid until it spills out,.....with the plug still removed, start the car,....let it warm up for about 5 minutes,.....then apply the brakes and put the shifter in each gear for about 3 seconds,....then ad fluid again until it oozes out the plug hole,..... then replace the fill plug. If you just replaced the filter in the transmission, this could take 7 quarts of tranny fluid.

Your 2002 Alero has to be lifted up on a hoist and there is a plug that has to be removed. There is no dipstick. Once the plug has been opened you can insert your finger in the hole to see if there is oil in there.

Transmission fluid dip stick on olds alero?

The transmission fluid dipstick for the Oldsmobile Alero does not exist. In place of the traditional fluid checking mechanism, the Alero has two caps. One of these is red, is located in the vicinity of the master brake cylinder, and is for refilling transmission fluid. The other cap, or plug, is 15mm and roughly halfway down the transmission. Loosen it carefully. If fluid comes out, the transmission fluid is good. If not, however, more fluid must be added.
