Not sure what you mean by the transmission, but the motor and linkages are the same place as on most vehicles. The motor is in the center top of the firewall with the shaft facing rearwards through the firewall into that open compartment below the windshield (the one with the open slots where all the leaves get stuck in the fall). To work on the linkages you will have to remove that cover. To remove the cover, the wiper arms have to come off, and that's easy. Just lift the wiper arm away from the windshield and slide the little metal piece under the splined shaft to the side. You'll know you have it right when the wiper no longer drops back down to the windshield when you let go of it. Now just jiggle the arm off the splined shaft. The cover is held on by lots of screws, most of which you can get to by opening the hood. Once loose, jockey the cover off the vehicle - you now have full access to all the wiper parts. The hubs come right off after removing three screws each. The linkages are held together by nylon push-on bushings which are avialbale from Dodge dealers only. There are three cap-type bushings and one pass-thru bushing. It's best to replace all at the same time so you never have to go through this again. You just pry out the old ones and push the new ones in - they are pre-lubed with a dot of nylon-compatible grease. The last one to attach is the one that holds the linkage system to the motor shaft. That is also the most likely one to fail. Your dealer may not stock the pass-thru bushing, so you may have to wait a few days to get it. Some guys just replace the broken one and call it good. This is also a good time to lube the hubs - I just squirted oil in both top and bottom (when I had them removed)the best I could and worked them back and forth until they felt all loose and smooth. It did get rid of an annoying squeak I used to have in the wiper system. Hope that helps!

A Dodge Dakota does not have a rear washer fluid reservoir. On most newer vehicles the washer fluid for the rear windshield comes from the washer fluid reservoir from under the hood. If you are not getting wahser fluid to the rear windshield it could be that the line is frozen or clogged with dirt or the line could be disconnected somewhere.
