If your car won't shift into reverse, try changing the Transmission Fluid and filter. Sometimes that will solve the problem. If that doesn't help, there could be a problem with the linkage or the shifter cable. Or, if the car is an automatic, make sure you're stepping on the brake pedal before you try to shift out of park. You may need to have a mechanic inspect the transmission.
fluids are fine, no codes, and it wont shift past 2nd gear. any help?
the only problem that you can repair yourself would be with the linkage. but if all other gears work except reverse then the problem is probably internal and should be inspected by a professional. it makes a big difference if the trans. is manual or automatic also.
i wont to change my shifter but cant take off old one
Are you referring to the knob on the shifter or the entire stick. It will help if you can tell us more about what's goin' on. FriPilot
there is a large metal staple type fastener on the frt of the knob that can be pulled out with a screw driver
Check your Automatic Transmission fluid level
as far as i know you cant check the transmission fluid on a 2000 Pontiac sunfire. It uses dexcool automatic transmission fluid and very rarley needs to be changed, i have a manual shift and it never has to be changed. Actually the only way that you can change it is by having it flushed the same way you flush a radiator, it has to be sucked out by a machine.
No
shift to nutral, then move lever to reverse
no there was never stick shift in a in the fwd 3.8 grand prix but there is a way to run a stick shift in the car without it being very costly......the chevy cavalier or pontiac sunfire manual 5 speed would work......of cross you will need to do some modification with the pcm but other than that it is a pretty simply procedure for any basic automotive tech.
The increased idle when started is normal, all properly working cars that aren't ancient will do it. As far as the hard shift goes, your tranny.
There is no fuel reset button on this car. Describe the problem your having. I assume it cranks, but doesn't start? BClear.
