The first US President to be assassinated was Abraham Lincoln (16th president). He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, a Confederate spy and actor who originally planned to kidnap the president. But after attending a Lincoln speech and being disgusted by Lincoln's view on black voting rights, he decided to assassinate the President instead. On April 14, 1865, Booth shot Lincoln during a performance of the play 'Our American Cousin' at the Ford Theatre in Washington DC.
