There were apparently more than one city of the Confederacy under siege near the end of the War Between the States. They were:
1) Richmond, VA, which was burned at the end of the war. Also, Petersburg,
2) Atlanta was under siege, and Union general Tescumah Sherman burned a swathe from Atlanta to the sea, burning all livestock and other goods that would have been an aid to the southerners. After Sherman burned most of Georgia, he said, "War is hell." He should know.

Near the end of World War II, American forces captured Nuremburg after a costly five-day battle. On April 20th of 1945, Americans reached the city's center and the defending German forces finally surrendered.

New Orleans became a busy trading and business center because its location on the mouth of the Mississippi River led to many towns and cities to the north of the city. Trade traveled up and down the river and the city prospered. It also became a major slave trading city. Captured Black Africans were bought and sold there for decades before the American Revolution. It remained a slave trading center until the agreement made to ratify the US Constitution called for the end of slave trading in 1808 during the term of US President Thomas Jefferson.
The siege of Boston ended with the British troops evacuating the city. They had to wait in Boston Harbor for a number of days for the wind to be favorable enough to set sail out of the Harbor.
The Siege of Toulon was ended when Napoleon took a prominent staategic position that gave his artillery control of the city and the port.
