Yes. It gave them a sense of insecurity before ww1.they formed these alliances with each other for protection and guarenteethat other members would come to country's aid if attacked.

to keep from Germany being so powerful. Germany was like a big brother to Austria-Hungary and it took so many allied powers to defeat them.
