In addition, the routes to freedom were more plentiful in the Spanish and French colonies than they were in Britain's plantation colonies.

they fought, worked in factories, and acted as spies and nurses*Hundreds of women follwed their husbands to the battlefield, where they washed and cooked for the troops. The war opened some doors for African Americans. Thousands of slaves excaped to freedom in the chaos of war. African Americans served in the Continental Army, where their courage, loyalty, and talent impressed white Americans.
the American revolution only included the 13 colonies (Britain's colonies in what is now America). the western territories of America had nothing to do with it. the western side of America only joined the US when US president James K. Polk came to power and introduced the idea of Manifest Destiny, which is the idea that Americans are entitled to own all of North America. :) the territories had no choice of joining America or not.
Taxes were implemented in the British colonies of North America to help pay for the various wars the Empire was engaged in. Since the American colonies were among the wealthiest in the British Empire it made sense to Parliment to tax them to help pay the bills for the defense of the British Empire. The problem with this was that the colonies had often times had to defend themselves against Native Americans, the French and Spanish. It made little sense to Americans for them to have to pay to once to defend themselves and then pay again to defend an entire empire.
