Was my 8th great grandmother who was burned at the stake in 1691 in Salem Oregon Margaret Stephenson/Stevenson Scott is also my ancestor but history indicates that she was either the last of one of the last to be executed during the Salem Witch Trials. According to the American playwright Arthur Miller, there weren't many differences. His play The Crucible is an extended consideration of the similarities between theMcCarthyism of the 1950s and the hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 (NOT 1962). Both periods in America's history showcase the darker side of human nature and our ability to exhibit a mob mentality under the guidance of authority figures. The most significance difference would be that McCarthyism effected the entire country, whereas the Witch Trials were limited to a much smaller region of the nation.
