Women helped quite a lot in the Revolutionary War. On the Patriot side, women raised money, made alternative goods during boycotts, and ran the households. When their husbands were gone, many women took over the farming, shopkeeping or other businesses to provide for their families.

Other women preferred to fight directly, and some went as far as to dress as men to fight in the the militias; women like Dicey Langston. Still others served as messengers or nurses. A girl of 16, Sybil Ludington, made a "midnight ride" twice as long as Revere's to muster militiamen. They did everything they could to help win the war.
