In layman's terms, the preamble to the Constitution sets forth what the constitution is going to say. "We the People of the United States," means every citizen in the US. "in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility," means that in order for the country to work as one, we have created a means of defining justice and peace in the country. "provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity," means that the people must work together to defend the country and ensure that each citizen receives the liberty they deserve. "do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America" means that the Constitution is established for the whole of the country and is basically the rules and regulations for how we should act as a country.
