Political party doesn't determine employment with the federal government. Ability, education, and experience determine employment. It would be against federal law to hire according to political affiliation because this would be discrimination.

If the democratic party has a majority in both the house and senate why do they not go ahead and pass a bailout plan?

Some members of each party believe a) it is not going to work b) could make things worse or c) there are better plans. If all Democrats voted for the plan, and all Republicans voted against, it would pass with 235 votes. But voting did not go exactly by party. In the House vote, approximately 60% of Democrats, and 30% of Republicans were in favor of the plan.

What demographic or interest groups do the Republican Democratic Green and Libertatian parties try to appeal to?

Republicans appeal to baby boomers, white people in the working class and corporate business owners. They are often mainline Christian, do not like the idea of government intervention and hold the position that corporations are the "job creators". They mainly work to improve the living of those who have power and wealth. Democrats appeal to middle class people, those in poverty and people who seek more government aid to help those struggling in difficult situations. They are often against corporate wealth and favor progressive policies such as higher taxation, more government regulation and making changes to our system as the culture needs it. Libertarians appeal to the disaffected as well as independents and often take a strong stance against government intervention, often coming from the argument that pure free markets lead to a better society for everyone. They favor ideas of volunteerism and are often non religious, favoring progressive social views. Green Party is fairly similiar to the Democrats, but take more extreme views on environmental ethics such as moving away from carbon based fuels and instead having more energy dependence on natural energies such as wind and solar.

What do republicans want for the economy?

Republicans want as little interference fromthe Government as is possible to allow the largest number of people to be free to become wealthy or self sufficient. They would prefer the lowest possible taxation on the average American and the most freedoms to do as you wish. Basically, they want to be fre to do what they can to provide for them selves and their families. Democrats want to be wet nursed and the ability to feed from the trough of those that work. They would prefer cradle to grave babysitting for themselves. They believe the roll of government is provide for anything they don't wish to work for and to protect them from themselves. Bottom line is that Republicans believe you can do it and Democrats believe you are too stupid to do anything. I believe that if anyone were to think through the issue, they could not be a Democrat under the current beliefs system today. Democrats were not always like this, nor were Republicans. This is a current issue.

How is democract different from a Republican?

Traditionally, the difference between Republicans and Democrats has been their views on the roles of the federal government. Democrats believe that it is the governments role to protect the people and that it is the duty of the federal government to ensure a minimum for all Americans, thus they support programs that provide for retirement (social security), ensure the availability of food regardless of income, health insurance and medicine, and education. In order for the government to provide this sort of assistance, it costs money, thus they tend to raise taxes, which is the only source of money the government has. Democrats tend to raise taxes on the wealthy while minimizing taxes on those who make below a certain limit (typically around 40,000 for a family of 4). Republicans believe that a federal governments primary role is to protect the citizens from external threat only, and trust the market to provide for the social wellbeing of the country. They support lowering taxes, especially on the wealthiest, in order to encourage economic growth, and that competition and enterprise will force businesses to provide living wages for those who work at the bottom tier. Although many republicans do support social welfare programs, the core ideology is against the existence, and when it come to whether a program needs better funded or to cut the benefits of the program, republicans tend to support minimizing the program. Interesting enough, since 1980, Democrats have balanced the budget and republicans have lead us to the 2 biggest deficits in our nations history. This is because Republicans have started to spend on social welfare programs, but have not wanted to raise the taxes to support the programs. As far as issues are concerned, republicans do not support universal health care, tend to be pro life, do not support gun control, and tend to support military spending. Democrats tend to support universal health care, want to stop global warming, tend towards pro choice, tend to support gun control, and tend to use the military less frequently, although rarely do they propose cutting the military budget. I am a democrat. -- I am not surprised this answer was written by a democrat! Republicans/Democrats do not act alone, each party holds their piece of this puzzle.

Are the liberal democrats bad?

No, that would be a very blanket statement. Our government takes a variety of views to work properly. Are there SOME liberal democrats that are bad? Yes, just like there are some conservative republicans that are bad. You are going to have some people with skewed extreme views and ethics in every group. You just have to remember that they do not represent their party as a whole.

Why do democrats like to spend your money?

Because they're politicians! Trust me on this: Republicans probably like to spend tax revenues more than Democrats do. They definitely like spending them on more expensive things, like wars and weapons that won't work.

Roosevelt's most vocal critics had reasonable objections?

The Republicans who opposed President Roosevelt believed he was going to expand the government, add too many new government employees, and increase government spending. Then, as now, Republicans believed in a limited role for government, and as they saw it, Roosevelt's plans to end the Depression would cost too much and create new federal bureaucracies. Whether these objections were reasonable or partisan depends on which side you were on. As Democrats saw it, Republican policies had contributed to the Depression and drastic action needed to be taken in order to put America back on the right path and help Americans find work. And as Republicans saw it, Roosevelt was going about it in the wrong way. The American public, however, seemed to side with Roosevelt and the Democrats, re-electing the president despite Republican opposition.

What do republicans think about health care?

Many Rebuplicans view Health Care as a place where Goverment doesn't belong. They see it as a 'share the wealth' plan that taxes people with income to assist those who do not, essentially demoting a healthy market and allowing people who do not work for anything to get the same treatment as those who do while making others pay for it. Opinions greatly vary in both major and minor ways.
