What political party opposed immigration?

In American history the Know Nothing Party was established to restrict Immigration and immigrant rights.

However in the current two party American system neither party was "founded" on the premise of restricting the rights of immigrants. Take these pieces of legislation into consideration.

1. Emancipation Proclamation, 13th & 14th Amendments abolishing Slavery and granting slaves rights [REPUBLICAN]
2. Chinese Exclusion Act of 1868 [Mainly Republican]
3. National Origins Act, also known as Johnson-Reed Act of 1924 capped annual immigration at 150,000 persons and set quotas on specific regions. Only "x" number of people from southern Europe could immigrate. [REPUBLICAN]
4. Magnuson Act 1943, repealed Chinese Exclusion Act [DEMOCRAT]
5. Hart-Celler Immigration Bill 1965, abolished national origins quota system [DEMOCRAT]
6. Immigration Control & Reform Act 1986, introduced by Republican Alan Simpson. The act legalized certain seasonal agricultural workers who were illegal and legalized illegal immigrants who entered the United States before January 1, 1982 and had resided there continuously with the penalty of a fine, back taxes due, and admission of guilt. About three million illegal immigrants were granted legal status. Signed by president Reagan. [REPUBLICAN]
7. Modern legislation includes Obama's "Dream Act" and the Gang of 8 (4 democrats and 4 republicans) immigration reform bill that is very similar to the 1986 bill signed by Reagan.

In summary throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries in America there was lots of nativist sentiment, which led to restrictions on the mass influx of immigrants. People back then just like those today, disliked the influx of uneducated immigrants who worked for super low wages beating out the average american. These restrictions lasted through WWI & WWII for security reasons but following bills to repeal were introduced by Democrats, and passed by both parties in Congress and then bills to expand immigration was introduced by Republicans and passed collectively by Congress.

The Know-Nothing Party were anti-Catholic and anti-Immigrant. They were originally called the Order of the Star-Spangled Banner, and operated as a secret society. By 1850 they came above ground and called themselves the American Party. They got the name "know-nothing" because when asked about their secret society they said, "I know nothing." As the American Party they elected 75 congressmen and former President Millard Fillmore ran as its presidential candidate in 1856.
