  2. John F. Kennedy (increased involvement of CIA and US ambassadors)
  3. Lyndon Johnson (after Tonkin Gulf incident, sent US combat troops 1964)
  4. Richard Nixon (negotiated treaty 1973, withdrew troops, allowing collapse of the South)
  5. Gerald Ford (with funds cut off, declared the US war ended April 23, 1975)

American Presidents are not royalty, therefore they do not REIGN or RULE. They LEAD. Depends on how far back you want to go. Truman was president when we started sending military aid to the French in 1950. Eisenhower & Kennedy were presidents as U.S. military advisors increased in number during the 1950's & early 1960's. Johnson was president when the escalation in troops happened in 1965-1968. Nixon was president when the official cease-fire was signed in 1973, and Ford was president when Saigon fell in 1975.

Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford all were in office during some phase of this war. Eisenhower sent US Military advisers in '55, Kennedy sent Special Forces (Green Berets) in '61, Johnson sent in 500,000 US Regulars in '65, Nixon ordered full scale B-52 bombing missions over North Vietnam and escalated the war into Cambodia. Nixon got most of our men out of Vietnam by '73; President Ford got the remaining US personnel out by April of 1975.
