AnswerAmerican colonists wanted independence from Britain, and wished to practice freedom of religion. Those who fled from England wanted to be free to make their own decisions instead of being controlled by others. The colonists didn't agree with a Monarchy form of government, they wanted someone devoted to the job of a ruler and wanted the vote to be unanimous. Most of the colonists never agreed with the British Parlaiment's acts and policies and most often rebeled or commited treason, which could have lead to a death sentence if caught. One of the most famous examples of treason was the Declaration of Independence, because it went against the laws and policies of its ruler, which at the time was King George III (King of the United Kingdom).
