a couple by the name of James and sallie murfree maney moved to middle Tennessee in the eighteen teens after sallie's father passed along a war land grant he received from serving with North Carolina in the war. at some point in their family, someone propositioned they would donate 60 acres of land to a neighboring town if they renamed the town murfreesboro in honor of not only murfreesboro, North Carolina, where the family was from, but in honor of sallie's father. the town agreed, and murfreesboro Tennessee was born. *the maney/murfree family lived at Oaklands, if that rings a bell.
