∙ 14y agoMany Native American tribes sided with the British because they had hoped a loss for the colonists would halt them from expanding Westward. Also, Loyalists/Tories in the colonies evidently hoped that Britain would win. Slaves were also forced to fight against the colonists, and many did because King George III had prohibited slavery in Britain. German mercenaries called Hessians fought along the British but lost when George Washington took over Trenton.
