When he (and, more properly speaking, British Parliament) disciplined Massachusetts and the rest of the American Colonies with the 'Intolerable Acts' of 1774-1775, King George was seeking to achieve two goals. First, the Americans were to be punished (and were to pay) for recent destruction of British goods and abuse of British soldiers. Second, such conduct was to be prevented in future through the passage of the disciplinary acts in question.

He saw the colonies as in revolt which was treason and he thought through force he could control them. On observer wrote that he sent so many military ships that it looked like the "whole of London was arriving."
