Why is the US a democratic government?

The United States has a democratic government because of an aversion to monarchal or king-type governments by the American Rebels, who later became the Founding Fathers. Also, since the days of Greek philosophers, Europe and North America have passed on the strong tradition of democracy.

All legal citizens of the USA have the right to vote, and all citizens have the same rights and are, by law treated equally.

In the Roman Republic, there were different forms of citizenship.

Slaves were not citizens (they were perceived as objects, like a vase).

Freedmen (former slaves) were citizens without certain rights (such as holding political office), however their children were Roman citizens.

Until Julius Caesar's rule, allied states held Latin Citizenship (inferior to Roman Citizenship).

Furthermore, the voting process began with the richest class of citizens, if the votes were tied, it moved to the second-richest class and if still tied, down a class again until either side had a majority vote. This meant that, many of the poorer, common people would never have a chance to cast their vote.

If however, we were to say that being in an Americanized nation (same culture, music, fast food, tv shows and indirectly affected by the politics of the USA) that European countries were part of the American Empire, then the difference between the USA and SPQR would be less noticeable (for the obvious reason that Europeans do not have US Citizenship, and therefore cannot affect the politics there).
