The ancient Egyptians seem to have enjoyed sports of many kinds, including a type of Wrestling similar to forms found throughout Africa. Tomb paintings include scenes of wrestling dating back to 2,300 BC (4,300 years ago) and these show clearly the various moves employed.

Legs seem to have played a major part in wrestling; while both contestants held each other by the shoulders, arms or neck they attempted to trap the opponent's leg or trip or unbalance him by various means. This suggests that getting your opponent on the ground scored a point, but we do not have any idea of the rules or method of scoring.
