One famous story is The Gold Rush

In 1848, James W. Marshall discovered gold at Sutter's Mill in California while working for John Sutter. Initially, Marshall and Sutter attempted to keep the discovery a secret to prevent a rush of miners that could disrupt their plans for the land. However, news leaked, leading to the California Gold Rush, which drastically transformed the region and attracted thousands seeking fortune. Ultimately, the secret was short-lived as the allure of gold proved irresistible.
The first gold nugget was found in 1848 at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. This discovery sparked the California Gold Rush, attracting thousands of prospectors and significantly impacting the westward expansion of the United States. James W. Marshall, the mill's carpenter, discovered the nugget while working on the mill, leading to a surge in gold mining activities in the region.

Much more gold has been found in recent years than was found in the Gold rush of 1849. Mostly because of modern mining methods not available to the miners in 1849 (such as heap leaching.) I read in a mining magazine that more Gold was found in 1994 than any year in this country's history.
the people who found the gold
the older people who were involved in the gold rush sadly passed away and the gold they had were to be found by relitives or friends. they died!
