The first tribes to settle in the Gold Coast, now known as Ghana, were the Akan people, which include groups such as the Ashanti and Fante. They established their societies around the 11th century, primarily along the coastal regions and the forested areas. These tribes engaged in agriculture, trade, and later became involved in the transatlantic trade, particularly in gold and other resources.
