You are probably referring to the inertia switch. In the event of an impact there is a switch that will disable the fuel pump on most Ford vehicles. Often times this switch is triggered by accident even if the vehicle was not in a collision. It is usually located under the right kick panel on the passenger side. There is a button that pops up on the top when the switch is triggered. To reset you simply press the button back down. See your owner's manual for details.

The 1997 Chevy crankshaft sensor can be found on the back of the engine. You will need to remove the rear engine cover in order to access the crankshaft sensor.

I HAVE AN OBD 2 SCANNER AND IN MY BOOK THAT IS THE INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT OR ALSO REFERED TO AS IAT SENSOR. THIS SENSOR IS LOCATED RIGHT ON THE AIR INTAKE TUBE. I THINK IT IS A TWO WIRE SENSOR.
The 1997 Ford Explorer ambient temperature sensor can be found on the bottom of the drivers side mirror. The engine coolant temperature sensor can be found on the front of the engine.
What kind of heat sensor did you have in mind??

You can identify whether or not your 1997 Ford Explorer has an overdrive drum sensor by looking at the identification tag on the transmission. The identification tag will list the overdrive drum sensor.
