It's not really about what rockers you run. If you have guide plates, you need hardened push rods.

What does bent rods sound like on a 350 engine?

If you are talking about the PISTON RODS then they will not make any noise. The engine will just wear the pistons and cylinder walls until you have a problem with oil comsupition. If the push rods or bent then you will have a engine miss and rocker arm noise in the valve covers/ clatting noise.

What are fuel metering rods in cars?

You must be talking about a CARBURETOR. They are called metering rods. They control how much fuel flows through the jets in the carburetor as you push the gas pedal. They can make a engine run lean or rich, by changing the air/fuel ratio.

In an overhead valve system what mechanism opens and closes the valves?

In most OHV systems, the cams are opened and closed in the following process: a camshaft is pressed into a gear which meshes with a gear pressed onto the crankshaft. The camshaft has protrusions which are offset from the center of the shaft so they turn rotary motion into longitudinal motion. The timed protrusions push two rods up at varying times (one rod controls intake, the other controls exhaust). As the rods are pushed up they push a lever that has a rod on the opposing side of the lever which is connected- either directly or indirectly- to the intake and exaust valves. The upward motion of the rods is reversed on the other side of the lever which pushes down (open) the intake or exaust valve. On one last note, the valve rods are encircled by a spring which returns the valve to the closed position when the offset cam protrusions rotate out of position.

What are engine lifters?

They are cylinder shaped objects that look like a small juice can - some are solid and some are hydraulic. They bottom against the cam shaft. As the cam rotates they are forced upward. The upper end of the lifter is attached to the push rods. The upper end of the push rod is attached to the rocker arm. The rocker arm is attached to the valves (intake and exhaust) As the cam rotates it pushes the lifter up, pushing the push rod up, pushing the rocker arm down, opening the appropriate valve to open allowing either fuel to enter the combustine chamber or burned fuel to be exhausted.

How much cost to replacing lifters 1995 Pontiac grand prix?

Would have to know the engine size. It isn't a real easy job. You have to remove all of the rockers and push rods, check the rods for straightness, and they must be kept and replaced in the same exact place they were originally.
