There are only three possibilities or any combination thereof:

It's either fuel, ignition or compression.

I know that doesn't give much information, and unfortunately, that's the best that anyone can do without seeing the vehicle or knowing more about the problems.

Fuel delivery is a quick and easy thing to diagnose. Purchase a can of starting fluid and spray it into the throttle body as an assistant attempts to start the engine. If the engine starts briefly, you have a fuel problem. The starting fluid has replaced the normal fuel and if the engine runs with starting fluid, everything else just checked out ok. At that point, check the fuel pressure at the pressure test port. You may need to buy, rent or borrow a fuel pressure gauge and while you're at it, see if you can figure out how much pressure you're supposed to have. Just slowly isolate the problem, one piece at a time and you'll get there.

If the starting fluid didn't help, check for spark. Sometimes an ECM can go bad and you won't get any spark. If that's the case, you'll get a computer diagnostic code. In this case, buy, rent or borrow a code scanner for your vehicle and determine what if any codes are showing. The computer will tell you if it thinks anything electronic is wrong.

Unfortunately, the computer doesn't usually tell us much about the fuel pump or fuel pressure, so good luck with that.

you need to check your crank sensor it will not let spark to your plugs if it is not reading crank motion. It is located in front of the oil pan under the engine; cost about a hundred bucks and very easy to change

One likely problem is that the spark plugs are not firing, due to what used to be the distributor and points- now many cars have an electronic ignition system.

It is easy to tell with simple equipment if there is a spark.

Automatic choke might be stuck, flooding the engine, or the carburetor might not be working right. Clogged gas line, or bad fuel pump might be the problem.

If you take off the air filter, you might be able to tell if there is gas in the carburetor.

If you have insurance on your car, emergency road service is often included. Your insurance would pay to get someone to tell you what is wrong, if you have that coverage.

most times it is fuel pump failure, next is ignition module, check cam and crankshaft sensor by scanning for trouble codes on computer. if you snell fuel and it sounds like it is trying to start, ive seen a weak battery cause the spark plugs to flood out.in this case hold gas pedal to floor and crank engine, this will let more air into cylinders and give the plus a chance mor air to dry and fire. being the limited info on your engine, check ignition coil, bad ignition wires, bad cap and rotor good luck message me if more info is neded

Why is your 1989 caprice turning over but not starting?

Commonly a fuel pump issue. An easy test: Have someone bang on the fuel tank as you try crank the engine. The engine could be flooded with gas, or there could also be an ignition issue.

How does the cps affects the starts of an engine?

The cps other wise know as crank position sensor shows the ecm that the engine is turning over and then the ecm turns on the spark and the fuel to allow the car to start. If the cps is bad the ecm won't see the engine turning over so in turn it won't allow fuel our spark.

What causes ignition switch to not turn an engine over?

A bad connection inside the ignition switch will keep it from turning the engine over.

New battery but again car wont start how do you tell if its battery cables or alternator?

Alternator can be discounted for starting problem; it charges the battery when the engine is running it has nothing to do with starting the car. If the engine is not turning over (cranking) when you try to start it, either the igniton switch, wiring or starter motor are at fault. Also check the thick cable from battery negative/body to the engine block. NOTE if the car is automatic the park/neutral switch could be faulty. If the car is alarmed it could be an immobilizer fault. Difficult to know from your question but if engine starts with charged battery, check WITH ENGINE RUNNING for 14 volts approx across battery terminals. If volts less than 12, swap out the alternator

Engine not starting or turning over on 306 xld 1996 you have checked battery and ok any ideas?

Why is engine Turning over but not starting?

No fuel (out, or pump not pumping) or no spark (or really bad timing).

Why does radio fade when starting engine?

Starting the engine uses the battery to turn the engine over. Because turning over the engine requires a LOT of electrical power, the car automatically shuts off any electrical devices that are powered on, so it has more electricity to use.

What does it mean when your won't start or turn over?

I means you have a battery problem or a starter problem or dirty/loose battery cable connections. If the battery is operating the starter and the starter is turning the engine over but the engine won't start and run, you may have a spark problem or a fuel problem.

How do you fix a starting problem on a 95 Chevy Caprice?

What is the engine doing? Does it crank over? Does click?

Is there supposed to be a spark at the plugs when you turn the ignition on but not turning the engine over?

No. It should only spark with the engine turning over.

What would stop car from turning over?

there are many things that will stop it from turning over, the obvious would be fuel (lack of) vacuum lines that are cracked, bad starter, dead battery and alternator injectors might be disconnected. if you have any more details on it please email me and i might be able to send more info aceaspade2000@yahoo.com . use car problems as the subject Lack of fuel does not stop an engine from turning over. It prevents an engine from starting. The engine probably will not turn over because of some electrical problem,,,battery, bad connections, bad starter, bad ignition switch, etc.

Why is engine not turning over?

Ck battery

Why do a Car starting problem fo a Mazda 626 when turned over its air runs for a bit but no engine starting?

Sounds like fuel starvatoin.

Your mk2 golf 16v gti wont start?

If the engine is turning over but the motor is not starting, then the problem could be a major leak in a vacuum line. Spray starting fluid and see if it does anything. If it tries to run but fails then it's the fuel system or a vaccum line. I have a 16v myself and one of those is always the problem. 16v motors are extremely sensitive.

If an S10 truck will not start is there a relay or circuit breaker that could be the problem?

Well somethings i need to know? Is the truck engine turning over and just not starting? If the truck is turning over i would first off guess either gas or elelctrical problems. If the starter is not turning the engine over, then i would point at the starter relay (you should hear that click when you turn the key). Also if you find that the relay is fine and it is just not clicking then i would look at the ignition switch on the steerin column. . ) Also, it may be the ignition control module. If the engine turns, but no spark, this could be the ptoblem also. Good Luck!

Why will the starter motor not start a Toyota Celica?

It depends if the starter is turning the engine over and its not starting the problem is not with the starter its with your ignition or fuel system most likely, If your start is making a whirring sound then its not making contact with the flywheel and you probably need a new starter
