When the smoke occurs helps give the answer. If you get it all the time, that usually means worn piston rings. That costs a lot to fix, but as long as you keep oil in your engine (tot the proper dipstick level), you can delay the repair for a while. Smoke that only occurs when you're decellerating means bad valve seals. That costs less to fix than rings, and can be delayed in th e same way. Hope this helps! Paul
Could be blowin by piston rings and burning up and out the exhaust.. if that's the case... blackish smoke will come out exhaust when revved
crank sensor is bad
No. There is no such thing. TAke it to a local garage and have it properly diagnoised and an estimatee for repair.
It appears so, since The Sunroof Doctor has a replacement motor that will fit 1996- 2002 SL models Sunroof Motor 1997-2002 Saturn SC (2 & 3 Door) 1996-2002 Saturn SL (4 Door) Special! this can sometimes be a confusing answer, I will try to clearify it as much as i can. According to Saturn timing specifications, the internal fireing order for the Saturn 1.9L motor, both Single overhead cam, or Twin cam is as follows: Left to right 1-3-4-2 If you are routing spark plug wires, and need to know the order of wires from the coils to the engine, the order is as follows: Left to right 4-1-2-3
exhaust pipe
Blue exhaust smoke is burning oil.
White smoke out the exhaust is a sure sign of a blown head gasket or cracked head. Do not start this engine until this is repaired.
It's the same for all vehicles, the oxygen sensors are either on the exhaust manifold or just below on the headpipe. They are about the only thing screwed into the exhaust that has a signal wire connected.
Oxygen sensor number two would be screwed into the exhaust either after or in the side of the catalytic converter.
Actually it is getting too much gas. Black smoke is an indication of an overly rich fuel mixture.
well white smoke is water or coolant being burned
Exhaust - album - was created in 1997.
Saturn Rukh was created in 1997.

There is no such thing as a 1997 dodge saturn! Try again.
The Oxygen sensor that typically on MOST vehicles is the one closest to the heat of the exhaust. Since the SL1 is a 4 cylinder engine with a single exhaust manifold, check (or replace) the FRONT oxygen sensor, which is in the exhaust manifold, just above the "headpipe". It looks a little like a sparkplug, and should be the only thing in the exhaust manifold that has a wire connected.
