They took them away from their parents when they were 7 so they would go live in military barracks. They gave the boys very little to eat so they encouraged them to steal food. but when they got caught they would beat them. So the boys learned how to lie, cheat, steal, and be cunning. Children were often whipped in front of their parents and were not allowed to cry out in pain. Older boys often beat the younger boys to teach them how to be tough.

Spartans wanted only the strongest and healthiest people to represent them. Later, a boy at age seven is sent to military school, to train. Boys battle against boys to see who can become a warrior. When a Warrior turns 20, they can officially start their military career.
It was the hardest life anybody could have. All the Spartans did from age 5-21 is train for war. At age 7 the spartan boys were taken to the Agoge to train for war, they would fight each other train all day everyday, the girls would run for stong babies and learn about life and train also for war. After the boys turn 18 they would have to kill a helot (a slave) to pass there training. After they finish there training they immediately go into the barraks for war
