Pay attention to how they came apart, in most all cases they will only make sense one way. The new pads you get will match up in size and look the same as what came off, so do them one at a time, removing one and replacing it with its match from the box. The inner and outer will have distinct differences, but the top and bottom will always be identified by the larger arc ( top ) and shorter arc ( bottom ).

You will notice that many have clips on the back, one side the clips fit nicely into the caliper cylinder side, while the other side will slide into the back side of the caliper.

Only one side of the pad set up moves, so it makes sense that the back side is securely affixed to the caliper.

There are many different types of pad set ups, but use these tips to make it a bit easier.

How do you replace brake pads on Proton Gen 2 I can't fit the the new pads there is not enough space.?

You need to use a Caliper compresser to force the Caliper piston back to home. All it is is a piece of 10mm flat plate with a nut welded to it and a long bolt. When doing this keep a eye on your brake fluid level and empty it a bit if needed, otherwise you will get brake fluid on the paint in the engine bay.

Why do brakes squeak?

if they screech for the most part it is a good indication you need new pads there is a metal indicator that when brake pads wear down will start scraping against the rotor now if you know the break pads are good or new screeching is common for the first few days if it continues it could be that you did not apply brake grease to the back of the pad where the pad meets the caliper if that's the case take them off and get a couple tubes of brakde grease (not that expensive) and put them on the back of the pads BUT DO NOT PUT THEM ON THE ACTUAL PAD WHERE IT WOULD CONTACT THE ROTOR that will make your brakes fail

How do you Put Back Brakes on a 2005 Chevy Malibu?

The brakes on your 2005 Chevy Malibu require replacement every 25,000 to 35,000 miles, depending on how aggressively you brake the vehicle when driving it. Many people opt to have a repair facility change the brakes because they don't want to chance installing them incorrectly. However, because the rear brakes on the Malibu are disc breaks, the rotors are replaceable without fear of causing a safety issue. # step 1 Loosen the lug nuts that secure the rear tire to the wheel studs with a tire iron. Do not remove the lug nuts. # Step 2 Jack the rear of the vehicle off the ground and place a jack stand under each side of the axle. Lower the Malibu onto the jack stands. Place a wheel chuck in front of the front tire to secure the vehicle. # Step 3 Remove the lug nuts from the wheel studs and pull the rear tire off the vehicle. # Step 4 Remove the two bolts that secure the brake caliper to the axle housing assembly with a 7/16 socket. # Step 5 Pry the caliper off the rotor by wedging a large flat head screwdriver between the outside edge of the rotor and the inside edge of the caliper. Pull the handle of the screwdriver upward, using the side of the rotor for leverage. # Step 6 Tie the caliper to the rear spring with rope. Do not allow the caliper to hang down on the rubber hose--the hose could break. # Step 7 Locate the splined washer press fit onto one of the threaded wheel studs. Press a small flat head screwdriver into the spline and bend it outward. Pull the splined washer off the wheel stud with needle nose pliers. # Step 8 Slide the rotor off the wheel studs by pulling straight out on it. Due to rust, the rotor may stick to the studs. Tap on the back of the rotor with a rubber mallet to break it loose from the studs. Place the new rotor onto the wheel studs and slide a new splined washer onto the wheel stud. # Step 9 Open the hood of the Malibu and take the cap off the brake fluid master cylinder. It is located on the fire wall, driver side. # Step 10 Locate the brake actuator located behind the brake pad on the caliper. It is behind the backside brake. Place a pair of vise grips around the back of the caliper and on the brake pad and apply pressure to the actuator. Close the actuator approximately 1 inch to allow room for the new brake pads. # Step 11 Pull the old brake pads out of the caliper. They do not bolt on or attach with clips; they simply rest on tabs built into the caliper. Place the new brake pads into the caliper. # Step 12 Press the caliper onto the brake rotor and line up the bolt holes on the caliper with the bolt holes on the axle assembly. Bolt the caliper into place with the 7/16 bolts. # Step 13 Turn the Malibu on to turn on the power brake assist and press the brake pedal until the pedal becomes firm. Turn the vehicle off. # Step 14 Place the cover back onto the brake fluid master cylinder. # Step 15 Place the tire back onto the wheel studs and secure it with the lug nuts. Remove the Malibu from the jack stands and tighten the lug nuts with the tire iron.

Why do the brakes squeak after they have been replaced on a 1998 grand caravan?

Whoever replaced your pads may have neglected to apply anti squeal goop to the back of the new brake pads. Brake pads should have some greasy stuff smeared on their surfaces where they meet the caliper, the caliper piston, and at the ends where they fit into the caliper. The squeal is caused by high frequency vibration where the back of the pad presses against the caliper and caliper piston(s).

How do you change the brake pads on a 2004 Ford Taurus?

Remove lug nuts and wheel. Around on the back side of the rotor, remove two caliper pins. Rotate the pad housing out. Pull old pads off. Use one of the old pads to compress the caliper so new brake pads will fit. Slide new brake pads in housing. Rotate back onto rotor. Grease caliper pins. Put the caliper pins back in rubber boot. Attach housing back to rotor. Then put the wheel back on. Check brake fluid and workbrake pedal a few times before putting car in gear.

How do you remove caliper so you can change brake pads?

on the caliper take out the bottom bolt, there are two bolts that the caliper slides on and only undo the bottom one. Then the caliper will swing up and allow access to the disc pads . You need to get a G-clamp and push the piston in the caliper back( or else it wont fit back down). put it back together and pump the brakes to set the brake piston b4 you drive or the first time you go to brake you wont have any.
