96 grand Cherokee doesnt have a fan belt, its a serpentine belt. And if you look down to the right of the fan there is a pully which acts as the tensioner, youll use a socket to loosen it up and then youll be able to slide the old belt off. Keep the box from the new belt so you can see how the new belt loops around each pulley. Be sure to tighten the belt pretty tight so it has minimal play or youll get some sqeaking whenever you run your AC.

∙ 16y agoI just changed the one on my 1992 s10, its a serpentene belt which is one belt for everything. you need a rachet and a pipe or something to go over the handle of the rachet to give you more leverage. the rachet will go on the bottom of the idler pulley in the front. Just make sure you know the routing of the belt before taking off the old belt, usually a belt diagram is near the hood latch on a sticker. You should be able to put the rachet on with the pipe over it and push toward the passenger side and the belt should come right off, and just reverse to put the new belt on.
