You generally can't replace the guide without replacing the cable. If the transmission still shifts easily, you don't need to replace the cable immediately (as in, it is not an emergency) however you should plan to replace it as soon as you can. yes you do there is no getting around it, sorry

On some cars you open the hood, and the light socket will be right on the inside behind the fixture itself. A quarter turn counter clockwise and pull will remove the socket. Then push in while turning a quarter turn counter clockwise again will release the bulb, or on newer ones, you just pull them out as they are the spade type. On some cars you will have screws holding the lens assembly in, and it would have to be removed to replace the bulb. Then still on others, you would reach underneath the bumper.

There are two metal clips behind the each headlight. Pull these upward, and the entire headlight will come out very easily. To replace the bulb, do so without touching the glass parts of the halogen bulb,and replace the headlight. Secure with the two clips. See, it was easy.
