You generally can't replace the guide without replacing the cable. If the transmission still shifts easily, you don't need to replace the cable immediately (as in, it is not an emergency) however you should plan to replace it as soon as you can. yes you do there is no getting around it, sorry
sounds like selector in transmission is broken if you can move the shifter but the trans does not change you may have broken the shift cable.
Several things can cause your transmission to be stuck in second gear. Broken or detached shifting linkage will cause the problem. A broken shifting for in the transmission can also cause the problem.
Under heavy acceleration the transmission will not quickly downshift.
could be transmission damage. At the least the cv axle was probable broken. The cv axle should not bt that hard to replace, but the transmission is a different story.
To replace a broken key in a 91 Subaru ignition, you will need to contact a locksmith. The locksmith can cut a key to match your ignition.
Because your transmission cable is broken and it must be broken near the transmission end You have to See your mechanic in transmission to replace it
cable from shifter to transmission is broken.
Professionally, it will cost around $2,000 to replace a broken shifter and clutch in a 96' Chevy Beretta. Just the replacement clutch and shifter will end up costing you around $800.00.
What type of vehicle? possibly broken parking paw (not good) if it will park but shifter just wont stay you have a broken shifter safety switch (this is the switch that requires you to depress the brake to shift from park) if it is an older vehicle it is a broken shifter the button you press to shift is broken if it is your parking paw you will need a different transmission or take it to a transmission shop to have it worked on (paking paw is a small knob inside the transmission to keep the vehiclke from rolling and coould be broken if you park on hills without using the parking brake)
If the cable is broken you should replace it.
If the manual transmission seems to shift into all gears but 2nd and it doesn't sound like the gears are stripped then it is likely the shifter itself. I had an '86 that had the shifter bolt was broken. It is the bolt that keeps the ball on the end of the shifter aligned, with it broken the shift pattern was anyone's guess as to what gear it was going into. I repaired shifter by installing a new shifter bolt and repairing the housing by removing the broken bolt piece. It restored the shift pattern and smooth transmission operation.
If you can run the shifter down through the positions it may have broken loose at the transmission . If the shifter doesn't move at all it may be a problem in the steering column < unless it is a floor shifter >. If it is a floor shift model I'd start by checking the shifter release button to see if it is broken.
There is a plastic rod inside of the shifter arm, it unlocks the shifter from the park position when the button on the shifter handle is pressed. So, press in on the shifter button and pull the shift handle straight UP (you might have to pull hard). You should be able to remove the broken pieces of the plastic rod with some wire. You might have to go to a junk yard for a replacement.
Do you mean that the shifter is able to move from park to drive and back, but the transmission is still in park? Is it possible that the shifter cable is broken, or has come off at the transmission. You will have to jack up the car, on safety jacks, have someone move the shifter, while you look at the linkage right at the transmission. Should give you the answer. The shifter itself could also be broke. Good luck.
Loosen the shifter cable not on each end of the shifter cable. The shifter cable will come off. Reverse the process to install the new shifter cable.
I'm not sure what a "shifter bulb" is, but if the shifter is actually broken, the most economical solution might be to swap in a salvage column, as I doubt any new parts are available at this point.
There could be two reasons for this. The first is the transmission is completely out and the second is the linkage in the transmission is broken.
