on a 1984 caprice this is tricky but not very hard. First thing you do is remove negative battery connection and block back tires & set brake, then lift front pass side of car. Behind wheel there is a support that has to come off first. don't worry it's just a bracket for frame support, it wont hurt to remove this part for now. then you'll see 2 wires 1 big one that goes to battery positive, remove that connection first. then the little one next. now that the wires are off, look for two bolts ,they should be 9/16 or 14mm? one is long & one is short don't mix these up! some are the same size. loosen them slowly. the starter motor is heavy so be careful. once you remove bolts there might be a hold down or grounding bracket. remove & turn starter out! remember how you take it out, since it has to go back in the same way! reverse procedure to install.

∙ 8y agoFIRST,you remove the battery cables from the battery. Then you slide under the passenger side of the car and look UP. There will be 2 bolts holding the starter to the side of the flywheel. It is about 25 lbs. so be ready when you get the bolts out. Lots of folks MASH fingers doing this. Be CAREFUL.
you also have to remove the torque converter cover. but its no big deal . its just a thin piece of sheet metal.. and just 4 bolts.

∙ 8y agoUndo the 2 bolts on the bottom of the starter. The starter will drop down, let it rest on the break lines, undo the two starters wires, (the selenoid and the power), 2 connections 3 wires total, grab the starter from the break lines, bring it out and around and it's all yours.

∙ 13y agoThe following instructions are for a 3.1 L V6
1: Disconnect your battery.
2: Elevate car to where you are able to easily get under it.
3: The starter is located on the bottom of the engine right behind the radiator; Center of the engine on the front (grille) side.
4: Remove oil filter.
5: Remove wiring harness directly beside starter.
6: There are two bolts located on the starter, both should be 14mm. Remove bolts and hold starter up.
7: lower starter and disconnect wires, large then small.
Add new starter in reverse order.
Don't miss a step, don't try to skip a step. I've tried every alternative, they don't work..

∙ 16y agoDo you want to REPAIR? Or REPLACE? Starters can be rebuilt with new parts............ Is it the starter or the starter solenoid? Before you tear apart a starter, I would make sure IT is the problem.........

∙ 12y ago1998 Malibu with v-6 starter is located on front left side of motor near transaxle. make sure you disconnect battery befoe removing starter. Easy Job. Got from another post elsewhere.
For 97-03 the above is semi true. This is a very difficult task. A novice should not attempt. The bolts connecting the starter to the motor are in an area that is not easy to reach. Even after finally reaching the bolts there is very little room to unscrew these over torqued lugs, and no power tool can fit in the tight space. Typically removing a starter and installing a starter is simple, but not on this vehicle. There are several steps that the Haynes manual leaves out like having to remove the fly wheel splash shield which has to be removed or the starter wont budge.
In short with every screw you remove to get to the starter the task will get harder until it is completed. The final bolt is the worst. Good luck because you will need it.

Okay I just replaced one in the Walmart parking lot so my memory is fresh. First of all it was not that bad of a job. You will need a jack to get under the car.
Make sure the negative battery terminal is disconnected.
Remove the splash shield (the big plastic thing that you have to remove to get to the oil filter).
Remove the plastic shield that surrounds where the starter goes into the engine housing. Its almost hard to see because its probably covered in grease. There are two 10mm head bolts holding this on. Its a little bigger than your hand.
Remove the wires from the starter. One post will be 10mm and the larger one will be 13mm. Do nothing with the 13mm post closest to the engine (nothing to remove).
There are two 15mm (head size) bolts that bolt the starter to the engine. The one furthest toward the back of the car is real easy. The front one is a little tougher because it is not a straight shot with a socket. I used a 15mm ratcheting box end wrench and it worked great (brand name is gear wrench and I got it at Sears. Its the one with no reverse and a straight shank). BTW a 13mm ratcheting box end was helpful to remove the front starter shield bolt.
That's it. Put it back together the way it came out and please invest in a set of ratcheting box end wrenches if you haven't already.

BTW don't bother with the Haynes manual. It just says remove the bolts, wires, and replace, or something that useless.

No, there is no access hole for the fuel pump on a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity. To change the fuel pump or replace the filter "sock" it is necessary to drop the fuel tank out of the car. I have been tempted to make my own access hole but never have.

Are you asking about the starter solenoid? If yes it is on the starter. If you are not asking about the starter solenoid what are you asking about?

Replacing a starter on a 1989 Toyota Corolla is not very difficult to do. The wires will need to be disconnected from the old starter and labeled or taped. The starter is held in place by two bolts, unscrew the bolts and remove the old starter. Then replace with the new starter.
