According to a website I saw, Advance Auto Parts pays $10-$20 an hour, so I'm guessing is is similar. The pay is determined by knowledge, skills and abilities.
They only pay state minim wage plus a small commission. I happen to work for them and most stores will try to start you at 9.00 hr. But I think that's only in Oregon .
I work for a O'Reilly store in MN and they tend to want to start you off as low as possible. I am only getting $8 p/h. I personally would rather work somewhere else if i am working for pay but I like the environment just not the district managers. They tend to forget how hard it is to deal with some customers.
If you want new parts check out from online parts stores that I have had very good luck with. If you are looking for used parts, check with your local salvage yard. Salvage yards that sell rebuilders usually have the best access.
To remove a stuck brake drum you will need to use a brake drum puller to get it off. Many auto parts stores have a loaner tool program where you pay a deposit for the tool and get your deposit back when you return it.
just called Schuck's Auto Parts here in WA state and they have available a rebuilt starter for my '96 3.2 TL for $181.00 + my old starter. However, since an auto shop will jack up their buying price 20% to 40%, you'll pay appreciably more than this, if you have an auto shop replace it. My guess is two hours labor at at least $65/hr + the cost of the starter at about $250.00. You'll be looking at about $400.00, or you can replace it yourself and save more than $200.00.
The cost of a Nissan Stanza alternator go from $86.00 to $174.00 depending on where you order and if you order a new alternator or an after market. I got mine for $91.00 and there was not a core charge. However, there is usually a core charge that you pay up front then you are refunded when you send in your old alternator, so you're looking at an additional $40 to %76. Check out O'Reilly Auto Parts (Checkers).
All the ones I have seen have been around 85 to 125, I bought one used and had to replace all the action parts and the firing pin parts, cost around 70 for parts so dont pay to much for one unless it is in good shape,
19.00 hr
The avarage amount an Auto Salesman earns a year, is around 25k (Thousand). the pay is so low, because they provide you with everything.

The amount the junk yard will charge for a part will depend on the part and the junk yard. Usually, you are allowed to get as many parts as needed.
Call you local auto parts store and they can quote you a price. It really does not matter, as if you need one you must pay the price.

You can purchase used auto parts off the internet and sometimes at auto parts stores. The best and cheapest place to find used auto parts is at a good junk yard. A good junk yard will have every car and every part you could ever imagine you might have to take it off yourself or pay someone to do it but it is well worth it.
