It varies based on the complexity of the job. A good rule of thumb is to determine the cost of materials, then multiply that amount by three to four to determine a range for the total price of the entire job. Best bet is to contact at least three contractors for bids and eliminate the high and low prices.

Why are houses in the desert painted white?

Their painted white because darker colours attract more heat, meaning they get hotter, faster. White, being the opposite of the darkest colour/shade, black, would then keep whatevers inside the house cooler than in a dark/black house. Does that help?

Can someone tell me if the color of the trim in bath should primarily be darker than the wall color and should I paint the vanity one of those colors?

There really is not "should" or "must" in decorating. Best rule of thumb, check the rest of the house... if the baseboards are all painted a darker shade of the wall colour, then there is your answer. If you are "starting fresh" and are looking to make your life easier, I would suggest ALL baseboards and trim be painted white. It goes with everything, is easy to touch up if it gets chipped or damaged (no looking in the basement for the "right" can of coloured paint), and most important of all, it allows you to have different colours in your rooms without the difficulty of trying to figure out where to change colours as you pass from one room to the next. As for the vanity, I'm a big fan of white here as well. That is not to say you can't paint it to match or co-ordinate with the walls. There are some great bathrooms out there done with the cabinetry in colours, but if it were mine it would end up white. Easy to clean, easy to decorate around and true white is available from every paint company out there.

How much per ft to paint baseboards in oil base paint?

I would expect to pay around $0.65/LF for a sizable job, or about a $200 minimum, whichever is greater.

Why are most of the houses in the desert painted white?

Most houses in the desert are painted white as white reflects the heat and does not allow for the walls to absorb it. On the other hand a black house would absorb all heat and the house would be a lot hotter then if it was painted white.

What should man do to keep warm in cold country?

one should paint his house a light colour. Most people would think that you would want to paint it a dark colour to get heat quicker, which is true, but if u painted it a dark colour it would lose its heat quick. If u painted a house a light colour it would take a while to heat up, but it would take longer to cool down

Why was the whitehouse painted white?

I beileve that many, many people thought that white would look good on a president's house. The White House is a neoclassical structure, and white was a popular color for such buildings.

Why was The White House colored white?

In 1812 the British burned the white house in the War of 1812. When it was repaired it was painted white. Paint was very expensive in the 1800's so to have a whole house painted white was very unusual and soon when asked about where the president lived they would refer to the "white house". The name stuck and now it is tradition to call it the White House.

Who thought of the name the White House for the building the White House?

I don't think any one person named it the White House but it came in general use after it was painted white to cover the burn marks left by the British in 1812 when they set it on fire. In the 1800's houses weren't painted because paint was very expensive so to paint a whole house white was unusual and it would stand out. People began to refer to the house as the "white house" because of that fact. In undeveloped Washington DC of 1815 it would really show up.
