OK, first read this entire thing before you start o.k, now disconnect the neg. battery cable from the battery, there are 2 bolts that hold in the starter, some people make the mistake and end up taking out three bolts. the first thing that you want to do is jack up the car so you can access it from the bottom when its time or when you feel you have to. next follow the neg. battery cable down to where ever it connects to because that's where your going to reconnect it, if I'm right its not connected to the starter at all but there might be some things that you may have to take off just to get them out of the way. If you follow the neg. battery cable is held in by a bolt along with a metal hook that holds a cord to keep it from contacting the Eng. or starter, they do not connect to the starter OK as i stated above. if you look straight down the radiator you should see the starter, it maybe surrounded by a plastic cover or something ,this is to keep it from shorting out or contact with anything else, be careful it constantly hot at all times, Take off the cover around the starter because you have to use it again on the new starter, take out the 2 bolts from the starter, you may have to hold it up so it just doesn't fall, do this from under the car its the best way Ive found. there is a positive cable that is attached, make sure you take this off and wrap it up in a cloth or something (just to be safe) before you take out the bolts. there might be a black square metal thing with 2 screws holding it in from the bottom and 2 lines coming out from the top, just take out the bolts (If you want) and just let it hang there because their going to piss you off ( maybe). now do everything in reverse, except the square metal thing, put that on after you have installed everything. Please for the love of Moses make sure if you don't have a starter cover that there is nothing around that stater at all to have it come in contact with or your car will start on fire because your power steering lines run right passed it and if one touch's it and you dont know it and you try to start your car your car will smoke and possibly weld its self to the starter and then if you try to start it again your car will blow the Power Steering line causing fluid to go all over the place and your car is now on fire. however, if you do have the cover please make me happy and put it back on or find a suitable substitute,m i only say this because it happened to me and i have toreplace the entire power steering line which is a pain the the ASS. if you have any question please mail me at m3idnight@netscape.net ill tell you anything you need to know or get the answer for you the next day. please connect all wire from the battery back to their spots connect the battery, should start with no challenges.

how do you replace a ignitionswitch tumbler 1991 buick skylark
Then why did you replace a perfectly good starter? ALWAYS test old parts and know what you're doing BEFORE you start throwing new parts at a problem. Find out WHY it isn't starting. Does the starter engage and turn the engine? IF it does, then the starter is probably fine. If not, check the starter, battery, electrical connections, ignition switch and neutral safety switch. If the starter has ALWAYS engaged and turned the engine, you should not have changed the starter in the first place; instead, you should be finding out what's wrong.
The O2 (Oxygen Sensor) has nothing to do with the engine not starting. If it will not start you either have no spark or no fuel. If the engine will not turn over, it is either the starter, battery, connections, ignition switch, or starter solenoid. Some starters have the solenoid built into the starter. Test the battery, and all connections. Remove the starter and have it tested at any auto parts store.

How do you replace starter on2.3 cy 1991 pontiac grand am
replace starter
You're going to have to crawl down under the engine for this one. First, remove the ground cable from the battery. Second, after making an accurate diagram of the wiring postions on the starter, go ahead and take the wire off. Third, remove the starter. Now it's time to either rebuild the starter you have or replace with a new one. Once you've done that, re-bolt the starter into place. Fourth, replace the wiring on the new starter EXACTLY as your diagram tells you to (just it way it was on the old one). Fifth, reconnect the ground cable and fire that baby up!!!
