If you just had a new muffler installed and now the car won't start when it ran fine before what could be wrong?

Do you have a modern car equipped with a computer? Somtimes if a car is welded on and the - battery cable isn't disconnected, it can damage sensitive computer components. This could be a very costly and difficult thing to diagnose and repair. Chris

You could start by cutting off your muffler and replacing it with a piece of pipe that you can buy at AutoZone, if it's still not loud enough, replace your catalytic converters the same way as the mufflers, but depending on the year, be prepared to dump alot of fuel and check engine lights if you replace the cat's. Just getting rid of the muffler won't hurt it at all. If it's before 1996, you shouldn't have a problem what so ever with muffler or cat's.

The rattle might be a loose heat shield but the loud exhaust can only be a hole somewhere. start at the manifold an work your way back listening and feeling for leaks.

start with your head A muffler with holes in it would sound like a muffler with holes in it, terrible. Drilling holes in the muffler would increase the chance of getting exhaust fumes in the vehicle which is a bad thing.
