Obi Okonkwo is the main character of the book No Longer At Ease by Chinua Achebe. This is the sequel to the book Things Fall Apart. Obi Okonkwo is the eldest son and 5th child of Isaac (Nwoye) Okonkwo, and grandson of Okonkwo from Things Fall Apart.

Obi Okonkwo is the first person from the 9 villages of Umuofia to go to England to be schooled post-secondary. Against the elders' wishes (whom provide him with the scholarship to be able to go there), he studies English as opposed to law. Becoming a senior-civil servant when he returns to Nigeria, Obi Okonkwo is caught up in a bribery scandal over 20 pounds and arrested.

In Things Fall Apart: Okonkwo, son of Unoka, was a proliferate wrestler and warrior of Umuofia. Okonkwo first gained fame throughout the 9 villages when he was 18 and defeated the wrestler Amalinze the Cat, who had been undefeated for 7 years. He later participated in many wars for Umuofia, and killed 5 other men. He kept the skull from his first cup as a wine glass. His mother was born in the neighbouring village of Mbanta. Okonkwo had 3 wives, and many children from each of them.

In some ways, Okonkwo ends up doing villainous things, such as nearly shooting his wife, and killing Ikemefuna. However, he is more of a tragic hero whose shortcomings cause him to do reckless and ill-fated actions.
