Which wire is negative and positive on a starter?

positive goes to the battery and negitive goes to a ground clamp on the frame..

Why negative earth and not positive earth on a vehicle?

StandardizationThe electrical term "earth" or "ground" is a connection that runs through the entire electrical system. It may or may not be connected literally to the soil. When a system is "negative earth", it means the electrical earth has a negative polarity. Power can then be run back and forth using only one wire carrying the positive polarity. Similarly, electrical signals need only one wire. At the destination, the circuit is completed by connecting the "negative" terminal to earth or ground.Until the 70s, cars were built with either a positive or negative earth, with popular British vehicles being among the last to be built with positive earth. Negative earth was adopted globally by automobile manufacturers for the sake of standardization. It was the introduction of radios in automobiles that may have seen negative earth automobiles being favoured. It was also thought positive earth vehicles rusted quicker. The US telephone system also uses a positive ground, after starting out with negative ground. However, the trolley cars in Atlanta, Georgia were causing electrical induction interference, which led to the phone cables literally falling apart. Every kind of solution was tried, but they all failed, until as a last resort the phone company flipped the polarity, and it has stayed this way till the present day.

What side does electrons flow from in a battery?

Outside the battery:The path for conventional current goes from the positive terminal (+, usually a red wire) to the negative terminal (−, usually a black wire).A wire's electrons flow from the negative (−) terminal to the positive (+) terminal.Since the current forms a continuous a loop in the same direction, the direction inside the battery is "backwards".Inside the battery:Conventional current flows from the negative (−) terminal to the positive (+) terminal.Positive ions flow from the negative (−) terminal to the positive (+) terminal.Negative ions flow from the positive(+) terminal to the negative (−) terminalConventional current assumes that all flowing charges are positive. It simplifies the situation because it hides the more complicated electrons, positive ions, and negative ions.

Is the frame of the vehicle normally attached to the positive battery post?

No. That would short out and potentially cause a fire. The negative side will go to the frame or the body to ground.

How do you tell the difference in the negative and positive on a coil?

Normally the terminals are marked on the coil ( if it's a bosch coil the one marked 15 is the primary winding positive terminal ). The large center one is the secondary positive ( the one that leads to your distributor ) and the two on the sides of it are the positive primary and the ground. If you don't know wich one is wich disconect the battery then disconnect the two smaller wires and remember wich one goes where. Use an ohm meter to test the resistance between a good ground on the body or engine block on each wire. The one that has no or very low resistance is the ground wire. If you are holding a coil in your hand and it isn't marked use the ohm meter to check the resistance between the secondary positive and the other two terminals. There should be infinite resistance ( open circuit ) to the positive of the secondary and 6Kohms or there abouts to the common ground terminal.

Does negative ground wire have fuse?

NO. Usually the positive wire will have the fuse.

How do you wire a 6 volt positive ground system?

Positive Cable from Battery to ground location on frame Negative to Starter Use #2 guage cable for best results Answer No. 2 You don't wire positive ground. Wire negative ground and you will forever be thankful. With a positive ground car everything, like a radio, elect fuel pump, elect fan or anything you add will have to be isolated because everything is made negative ground. You can't wire stuff made negative ground to a positive ground you get the shorts.

Where does the ground wire go on a car battery?

Negative - (Black) is Ground, Positive + (Red) is Hot. Ground wire goes to Negative (Black) it goes from negative on battery to engine for ground.

Where is the positive ground wire located on a 1983 Chevrolet celebrity?

Chevrolet Celebrity uses negative ground, there is no positive ground.

Which wire is ground wire in a 97 Nissan Pathfiner window?

There is no ground wire in automobiles, they have tires that insulate the vehicle from the ground. There are only positive and negative wires.

Why are most cars negative ground?

any any one positive or negative has to be grounded to reduce wire length , normally -ve is chosen as ground any any one positive or negative has to be grounded to reduce wire length , normally -ve is chosen as ground

Which wire is negative and positive on a starter?

positive goes to the battery and negitive goes to a ground clamp on the frame..

Does the AC outlets have a positive and negative terminals?

The side of the plug with the ground wire is or should be the negative and the side with just the center screws is the positive.

How do you tell a positive wire from negative wire with colors?

In a DC circuit Red is positive and Black is negative. In AC systems White is neutral and Ground is green or green-yellow stripe.

How do you connect the alternator positive and negative wire to starer?

You do not connect any wire from the alternator to the starter. The positive wire from the alternator should run to the positive on the battery, and the negative wire (if equipped) should run to the engine block (or any suitable ground). Most alternators are already grounded by the bolts holding them to the engine, but some do have a negative wire.

Which wire is grounded positive or negative?

The negative wire is grounded.AnswerThe negative wire is grounded.

Where is negative battery terminal on a citroen?

The negative battery terminal is on the battery. They don't have a wire coming from it like they do the positive. For charging purposes, the engine block acts as the battery ground. When disconnecting the negative at the battery, the negative terminal usually has a black wire and the positive has a red.
