Napoleon Bonaparte created the continental system in order to weaken Britain's economy. The system forbid any nation in Europe from trading with Britain.

In return the serfs would have to farm on the land. So the knights made the manor militarily self sufficient and the serfs' farming made them economically selfsufficient

The Holocaust is what we call it looking backwards to that time.
