I would say you have broken teeth on it, or your battery may be getting too low, while your key is in the ignition in the on position, take a screwdriver and touch the B+ wire on the starter solenoid ( may take a few tries but should start)! I would also advise that you get it replaced!

How do you replace starter on 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix with 3.4 liter doch engine?

It's quite easy. You have to disconect the battery first. Then go under the car and the starter is located where the engine meets the transmission. There are only 2 bolts. They are straight up and down.Take the bolts out and the starter will drop(will not fall all the way out). Then disconect the wires. Now the fun part you have to get it out of the engine compartment. To do this you have to just keep trying different angles until it comes out. Then to re-install just reverse the process. It is very important to disconect the battery before you do anything(Risk of sever electric shock).

Why dies the Starter kicks out before engine starts?

The starter motor kicks out before the engine starts to prevent damage to the starter and the engine itself. If the engine fails to start after a few attempts, the system disengages the starter to avoid overheating or overloading the starter motor. Additionally, this mechanism helps ensure that the engine is not cranking indefinitely without ignition, which could lead to battery drain or mechanical issues.

How does a starter clutch work?

A starter clutch, also known as a one-way clutch or sprag clutch, allows the engine to start by engaging the starter motor while preventing the engine from driving the starter. When the starter motor turns, the clutch engages, allowing the engine to crank. Once the engine starts and exceeds a certain speed, the clutch disengages, preventing the starter from being driven by the engine's rotation, which protects the starter motor from damage. This mechanism is crucial for ensuring smooth engine starts and preventing backflow of energy to the starter system.

What is a stater motor?

A starter motor is an electric motor that initiates the engine's operation by turning the flywheel, allowing the engine to start. It is powered by the vehicle's battery and engages when the ignition key is turned. Once the engine is running, the starter motor disengages automatically, as it is not needed during normal operation. Starter motors are essential components in most internal combustion engine vehicles.
