NOT SURE IF 2000 IS THE SAME A 1998 BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE USED AN OFFSET BOXED END WRENCH TO REMOVE THIS TOP BOLT. REMOVE AXLE NUT SO HUB ASSEMBLY CAN BE PULLED OUT WHILE LOOSING BOLT.IT IS NOT EASY BUT NOTHING ON A TAURUS IS
=Answer = 9/26/06 Remove lower ball joint bolt use big pry bar and take ball joint stud out of lower control arm remove drive axle nut and push axle back get a socket on all bolts no problem whole process takes about 1/2
I had the same problem what you can also do is take the other two bolts off then turn the sterring wheel towards the side that your working on and use a small socket with a small extencion its also not easy but it helps a lot turning the sterring wheel
