Concrete, steel, glass. 99% have air conditioning and are generally large by world standards. Family houses with 8, 10 or even 12 bedrooms are not uncommon. Many Kuwaiti and expatriate families will have one or two live-in maids and possibly a driver who will occupy some of the small rooms in the house. Most private houses in Kuwait have a flat roof due to the very dry conditions and lack of rain or wind. This allows many houses the option of a rooftop swimming pool. However, these tend to be aimed at the expatriate communities as many Kuwaiti families also own holiday villas further down the coastline towards Saudi Arabia. Almost all houses in Kuwait have tiled floors as opposed to carpets. This is a practical measure considering the dust associated with desert living!
